How Canadian organizers plan to maintain the movement The march takes place on March 8 to coincide with International Women’s Day and encourages women to take a day off work to show the impact women have on the workforce and socio-economic system. “In the same spirit of love and liberation that inspired the Women’s March, we join together in making March 8th A Day Without a Woman, recognizing the enormous value that women of all backgrounds add to our socio-economic system-while receiving lower wages and experiencing greater inequities, vulnerability to discrimination, sexual harassment, and job insecurity,” states the event’s site . “We recognize that trans and gender nonconforming people face heightened levels of discrimination, social oppression and political targeting. We believe in gender justice.” But while we’d all love to ditch our desks and join the protest, it’s a luxury that not everyone can afford. Not everyone has the option of paid leave and not everyone can afford to take time off without impacting their bills or risking losing their jobs.
